Free to a Good Home! from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I continue to try them out, but Mystery quilts are just not for me!

Late last year, I signed up for a mystery Stitch Along through Annie's.  I really enjoyed the first block.  It was a nice mix of piecing and applique.  But then February's block was released and it was a truck entirely appliqued.  I looked at it and thought I would redesign it so that it was a mix of both techniques.  Before I got around to redesigning it, the third block was released....and you guess it - entirely applique again.

So I will continue to ...

Spring 2021 Quilty Orphan Adoption Event from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Happy Spring!

Spring for me always brings a bit of deep cleaning - especially in my sewing room.  I usually find myself looking at my old UFOs and deciding which ones I am ready to abandon.  For years, I hesitated in abandoning my projects - thinking that I should finish them someday.  I no longer think that way.  It is so nice to send them off to someone that will finish them and I no longer have the guilt or burden.

I started the Quilty Orphan Adoption Event years ago to get these projects into the hands of quilters who area ready ...

Help Me Let Them Go from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been saving selvages for quite a while.

I recently got them out and made this quilt using them.  Upon finishing it, I decided making things with selvages really isn't for me.  But do you think I can dump all the ones I have saved to date away?

I still have a fairly large stash of them that I just can't seem to toss in the trash.  So I am hoping someone can use them and save me from myself :)

Some of them are long and some have been trimmed down to about 5-6" long.

These are ...

Fall 2020 Quilty Orphan Adoption Event from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Do you have a long list of UFOs that you feel like you will never get done?  Adopting out an unloved UFO may be a better option than finishing it yourself!

I have been working for years to continue to work down my list.  I think I am under 20 projects now.  But every once in a while, I start something that I know I don't want to finish.  And with a LONG list of quilts I want to make in the future, I find it is nice to pass the unwanted onto someone else.

So a number of ...

Oh Scrap! : Orphan Blocks...Again! from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

As I was straightening up my sewing table, I came across some sewn bits I needed to put in my orphan block storage.  My single suitcase of leftovers has turned into so much more!

On the left is my little suitcase that has always contained my extra blocks.  When that became full, I started throwing them in another box.  Now that one is overflowing!

So I decided to do a quick sort and pull out some bits to play with.  I am sewing on another project so I have been sewing on this at the same time.  I started with ...

Spring 2020 Quilty Orphan Adoption Event from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Have you been spending your isolation time in your sewing room?  If you are like me, you have probably spent some time cleaning and digging out old UFOs.  If you have come across some old projects or orphan blocks that you no longer want, consider adopting them out!

Quilting is more fun than Housework

Does this sound like projects you might have?  Well my friends, it is time to get those projects out of our sewing rooms and into the hands of someone that will finish them!  Over the years, I have adopted out over a dozen projects and I have never given them a second ...

Oh Scrap! : Turquoise and Orphan Adoption Event from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Time to get out the turquoise scraps for March.

The first blocks I decided to tackle were these rail fence pinwheel blocks.
I had a really nice selection of light and darks scraps in this color - but not many mediums.

But once these blocks get put up with all of the ones done to date, they look great!  I think I am really going to like this quilt.  It is so colorful!

I also want to announce that I will be hosting the Quilty Orphan Adoption Event starting Thursday March 19th.  Last Fall, there were not many projects linked up ...
